In 1904 he was one of the co-founders of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP)
Became leader of the Niagara movement a group of African Americans who fought for blacks to get equal rights. He was the first African American to receive a PhD from Harvard Taught history, sociology and economics at Atlanta University He wrote many books about African American culture and life Became an editor of The Crisis which contained political essays, but also poems and stories glorifying African American culture and accomplishments. |
